Speaker Dr. Jürg Oliver Straub, Environmental Risk Assessor - F.Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd
Jürg Oliver Straub is a Swiss biologist who has been responsible for regulatory environmental risk assessments for F.Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd since 1998. In addition, he is also involved in investigating potential environmental problems from the production of pharmaceuticals at Roche, including intermediates and ancillary compounds. He participates in national and international research programmes on fate, effects and risks of pharmaceuticals in the environment, recently the IMI Programme iPiE sponsored by the European Commission and the European Pharmaceutical Industry, and he is an occasional reviewer for scientific journals in this field. Oliver is a Chartered Biologist and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology in the UK, a Member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences (UK) and a member of the international Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC).
Speaker Louise Summerton, Green Chemistry Training, Education, and Networks Manager - University of York
Louise Summerton graduated from the University of York in 2001 with an MChem in Chemistry. She is currently the Training, Education and Networks Manager in the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence (GGCE) at the University of York and has over 10 years' experience in the preparation and delivery of green chemistry training and educational material. Louise is currently leading on the creation of an Education and Training package for the CHEM21 project. She has also been involved in securing the funding for, as well as the coordination and delivery of, numerous desk-top research projects on a national and European level, of which two included close collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining the GCCE, Louise worked as a Medicinal Chemist for GlaxoSmithKline in Stevenage, UK and a Research Chemist for Croda in Hull, UK.
Speaker Dr. Johanna Borgendahl, Project Leader - Stockholm County Council
Dr. Borgendahl's background includes studies in earth sciences, chemistry, and biology at Stockholm University, with a PhD in biogeochemistry. Since 2008 she has worked as a project manager at the Sustainability Department, Stockholm County Council, responsible for their work with pharmaceuticals.
