Rosemary Kumwenda

Senior Policy Advisor of Sustainable responses for Health and HIV - UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub, and Coordinator of the Sustainable Procurement in the Health Sector (SPHS)

Rosemary Kumwenda has over 15 years of experience within the UNDP, at both national and regional levels, working on Health and HIV. She spent 11 years in Zambia as the Assistant Resident Advisor on Poverty, HIV, and AIDS. Rosemary also served in UNDP Malawi Country Office where she delivered the UN joint programme, leveraging UNDP’s comparative advantage on: HIV and the law, key populations, HIV, and gender mainstreaming in development plans and strategies. In 2014 Rosemary joined the UNDP Regional Service Centre in Addis-Ababa, and in 2016 joined the Istanbul Regional Hub as Senior Policy Advisor for Sustainable Responses HIV, Health, and Development.

Rosemary has a Master’s degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is also a Medical Doctor trained in Romania, where she practiced medicine for 10 years in clinical care and rose to the rank of Director of Health for the City of Lusaka, before joining the UNDP. Rosemary speaks 6 languages including English, Romanian, and French.
